This is a little bit of the next book I’m working on, “Beyond Patriots and Traitors”.
The helicopter taxied to a stop and a crewman opened the door. Tom watched the Major jump down her arms stiffly swinging back and forth to the in-processing area. She was mad as hell and had tried to give him the what for when the helicopter arrived at Captain Amadulah’s compound. He’d just smiled at her. Then it was so noisy on the flight she quickly gave up yelling at him questioning him about what had happened with Farid. Not that he would have told her even if she’d asked nicely.
She was already a third of the way to the in-processing building by the time he and Dewey jumped out of the helicopter.
“I’m going to go mess with her,” Dewey yelled over the rotor wash.
It was too loud to answer so he shrugged and mouthed, “why bother”. But Dewey was Dewey and mess with people was what he did. She deserved it for being the General’s stooge, he didn’t feel bad for her.
As soon as they started to the fenced in building the aircraft taxied away. Major Church turned her head at the change in the noise level and saw Dewey catching up to her. She doubled her pace and outraced him inside.
Tom watched Dewey start to speed up then stop. He joined the fat man and they walked together.
“I could have caught her, but I didn’t want to be huffing and puffing while I messed with her.”
“Just as well. We got work to do.”
“Farid gave us some good info?”
“Great info actually. We’re going to be busy.” He patted his rifle.
